Rocío Varela García

Partner in charge of Energy and Infrastructure

Rocío Varela has been a practicing lawyer since 2013, specialising in consulting on EnergyTransport Infrastructure,Engineering and Construction, as well as commercial contracting and corporate law.

During her professional career, she has carried out numerous infrastructure construction, operation, and maintenance projects, under the modalities of concessions, Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs or 3Ps), private initiatives (Private to Private), and public tenders. She has especially focused on transport infrastructure (roads and railways) and energy infrastructure, from both traditional and renewable sources (solar thermal, photovoltaic, wind, etc.). She has also advised on projects for the construction and operation of cement plants, telecommunications infrastructure, water treatment, and waste treatment.

Her professional experience includes consulting on commercial and contracting matters, corporate law, financing (project finance), project refinancing and restructuring, and mergers and acquisitions.

Rocío has a degree in Law and Business Administration and Management from the Universidad Pontificia de Comillas (ICAI-ICADE). She is bilingual in Spanish and English and has very advanced knowledge of French.

She has spent her professional career at Uría Menéndez and, primarily, at Baker McKenzie. In this position, her responsibilities included advising on multi-jurisdictional energy and transport infrastructure projects.
